🌿Walled Garden: Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS)
Beyond the brute force of DDoS lies the art of distraction. Discernment is the ultimate defence.
The tech industry keeps telling me to optimize. Optimize my build times, optimize my latency, optimize my personal brand, and optimize my resume for automated screeners that parse my life into a JSON schema that throws an unhandled exception every time it hits an unassisted zero-dependency build.
I am done optimizing. I am moving to a rural plot to grow root vegetables.
| # | MODERN TECH STACK | THE FARM STACK |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dependabot alerts (150/day) | Potato in the soil |
| 2 | 12-month cross-team button reviews | Potato grows or dies |
| 3 | LangGraph multi-agent delegation | Sunlight (Free API connection) |
| 4 | Non-technical manager copy-paste code | Rooster Alarm Clock |
In modern software development, if I want to write a script to log text, I am expected to import a 200MB framework that pulls in 4,000 nested npm packages maintained by anonymous Mountain Dew enthusiast. Three weeks later, a CVE is logged because one of those packages has an unhandled buffer overflow, and I am asked to spend three sprint cycles bumping a minor version number.
In farming, soil is entirely self-contained.
If a weed appears, I do not open a Jira ticket to assign a cross-functional squad to evaluate the strategic impact of the weed. I pull it out. The weed does not have an open-source license, it does not require a privacy impact assessment, and it does not trigger a 45-minute standup on whether pulling it violates our team’s core cultural values.
2. Crops Possess Deterministic LogicI recently reviewed a corporate job listing that required me to write "Python without an IDE or AI assistance" on a shared whiteboard while explaining how I would use CrewAI and LangGraph to build a multi-agent framework to route internal emails.
A carrot seed has a far more elegant architecture:
There are no edge cases where the carrot hallucinates a non-existent corporate policy or demands a 12-month cross-departmental review before extending its root structure three inches lower. If the carrot fails to grow, it is because I did not give it water. The feedback loop is binary, deterministic, and free from administrative gaslighting.
3. Animals Have High-Agency CommunicationIn enterprise tech, communication is an exercise in indirect protocol translation:
On a farm, if a goat is displeased with the fence, it hits the fence with its head until the fence gives way. It does not send a Slack message asking to "sync on fence stability." It acts with total, unvarnished agency. I wish to be with my fello goats. Lets ram our heads together!
When a tractor breaks, it does not throw an ambiguous Object [object Object] error masked behind a corporate telemetry wall. It leaks oil onto the dirt. The root cause is sitting right there, physically visible, waiting for a wrench—not a 6-month root-cause-analysis committee.
4. The "Sequential Mirror" of the FarmA corporate resume demands that I compress 10 years of unassisted systems architecture, quantitative modeling, and forensic debugging into a flat PDF so a non-technical recruiter can check if I know how to run a basic pip install after which their brain stalls as they have forgotten what that keyword represents. It is a lossy medium designed to flatten high-dimensional human capability into a standard line item.
A farm does not accept lossy protocol adapters.
The dirt does not care about my job title, my certifications, or whether Seek's algorithm thinks I am a "Strong Applicant" for an enterprise consulting role. You either prepped the bed for winter, or the frost destroyed the yield. The state of the field is a perfect, uncompromised spatial mirror of the work actually performed.
I am retiring from the administrative parsing grid. If anyone needs me, I will be out back, building a zero-dependency automated irrigation system out of PVC pipe, gravity, and zero third-party libraries.
